Pinot Blanc (Weißburgunder) is one of the classic, traditional South Tyrolean grape varieties. Under the special designation Erasmus, this white wine takes its name from the chapel of Wehrburg Castle, which is dedicated to Saint Erasmus. Every year on June 2nd, the patron saint's day is festively celebrated there – accompanied by this noble wine. The vines thrive on the sun-drenched southeastern slopes immediately below the Wehrburg. The Pinot Blanc presents itself as an elegant and juicy wine and is particularly appreciated as an aperitif. According to an old custom, a glass of Pinot Blanc is traditionally part of going to church on Sundays after Holy Mass. With its restrained yet fine aromas of apple and lemon, it pairs excellently with pasta dishes, fish, and white meat. This Pinot Blanc also proves to be an excellent companion to Asian-spiced dishes.
